Southeast Europe e-Commerce Forum and InfoBulgaria 2000

On 2-3- June 2000, ARC Fund organized the regional Southeast Europe e-Commerce Forum and parallel business brokerage event, InfoBulgaria 2000 . The Forum gathered a total of 170 participants at the Sheraton Sofia Hotel Balkan. The list included high-level policy-makers, industry professionals, entrepreneurs and researchers from the Balkan countries, the European Union, and the United States. Participants discussed the impact of Internet and e-commerce as driving forces of economic growth and societal development in the Balkan region. Special focus was given to the “digital divide” between North and South, the legal and regulatory framework of e-commerce, the relationship between government and e-commerce, and the promotion of e-business opportunities in the countries of Southeast Europe.

The parallel business event, InfoBulgaria2000, was attended by more than 50 information and communication technology (ICT) companies from Bulgaria, Greece and Austria. Participants were given ample opportunities to exhibit their products and technologies, establish contacts with international business partners, and discuss various types of cooperation arrangements. The ultimate goal was to stimulate the trans-national business activity of Bulgarian small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). InfoBulgaria2000 was organized in association with the Austrian Bureau for International Research and Technology Cooperation (B.I.T.) and the Hellenic Association of IT Industries (SEPE).
